Gas Oven Won't Light

We have a natural gas oven (the kind that is mounted in the wall by it’s self) and it won’t light. You can see the electric starter illuminate but there is no gas flow. I’m 99.9% sure that there is gas going to the oven because the stovetop is plumbed to it and that works fine. I’ve taken the bottom rack out and checked the fuse I found, but there are two other components. One is round (I’m guessing it’s a pressure regulator?) the other is a rectangular box with two wires coming out of it, and the gas line goes through it. I’m thinking this is bad what ever it is. Anybody might know what’s going on?

There is usualy some kind of heat or flame sensing safety on gas appliances. If the devices senses that the flame, starter, or pilor light has gone out, it will not allow the flow of gas. This is to prevent the appliance for just spewing gas into the room if it does not light. My suspicion (without knowing the specific about your oven) is that this device has gone bad. There are a number of kinds of sensor, but that is most likely what that metal box is. What is the make and model number of your oven?

It is a Tappan model 12-1263-30 It's a wall mounted unit with the oven up top and the broiler down below. see pic Sorry about the quality. The metal box on the left has a fuse under it which i checked, to the right of that is the one i think is bad. What are the other two to the far right?

Its hard to tell without being there. From what I can tell the far left item is your ingitor, the next is your safety valve, then comes what looks like a pressure regulator, and whats all the way to the right I have no idea.
I did a little searching around on Tappen wall mount ovens. It seems they have two ignitors - one for the broiler and one for the oven. They share a single safety valve. That being said, if the oven does not work but the broiler does, the problem points to the ignitor. if both dont work, chances are its the valve. I also found out that even if the ignitor does glow, it may still be defective.

I've replaced the safety valve and still no gas flow. The igniter lights up (there is only one, the broiler is located below the oven. All one unit with 2 doors) but the gas never flows. The item on the far right is an on/off valve you move with a screwdriver. Now I’m thinking the regulator is bad. I've checked for power at the dial where you select the oven temperature and got 120 volts there. And thats what turns the igniter on, checked for loose or broken wires, omed the fuse, which is in series with the igniter. The question I have is when power is sent through the safety valve to the igniter, what happens inside the safety valve? Could the thermostat that comes out of the dial where you select the oven temperature be bad? It doesn't connect to anything else. Could the gas line be plugged? I've called the pros but their priority is fixing peoples heaters and can't get here. I'm tired of eating microwave dinners, but my wife loves it.

Never mind it's been repaired. They replaced the igniter and it now works. but i still don't get it ? the old one worked.Does it build up some sort of resistance to open the gas valve?
